FISKARS Mechanical Hoist
This project was based on producing a mechanical hoist that would be tailored to a choice of brands. The brand I chose was FISKARS due to their cool orange and black colour scheme. The Solidworks model is produced through a series of sweeps and lofts with different profiles. This design features a working gearbox which converts users inputs into a much greater force which can be used to lift heavy objects.
A number of stress tests were ran on this form to ensure it was capable of performing. First of all, a displacement test was ran with a weight of 150KG on the hook. This design showed minimal displacement which is sufficient. I then ran a stress test to see the amount of stress this weight had. Once these tests were complete and I was happy with the results, I ran a topology study to see if any material could be taken away, thus costs reduced. This study found that an area in the in the upright body which wasn't needed. This explains the holes in my design. Overall, this project was helpful and enabled me to use different features within Solidworks to evaluate and improve my designs.
