LUZ Rear Bike Light
LUZ - The rear bike light which helps to prevent cycling accidents by making cyclists visible. Stemming from secondary research, it was found 37% of all cycling accidents were categorized as ‘look but failed to see’, meaning the cyclist wasn’t seen. The bike light is fitted with a secure RFID lock which prevents theft, thus giving users the confidence to leave the light attached.
This bike light emits two laser lines, one on either side of the cyclist which increases their road presence, making them seen. These laser lines are projected onto the ground, displaying a safe passing distance for other road users. This rear bike light clamps onto the seat post and includes two different sizes of rubber inserts for different sizes of bikes.
This project is a combination of 3 additional projects. The first being a viability report which identified; safety issues around cycling, existing products, current product market, manufacturing ethics and material ethics. This report is available from the PDF icon to the left. The next project was concept generation based on the report's findings.
