Voluntary Experience

CAMPS INTERNATIONAL CAMP BORNEO

2016

After finishing my GCSE’s, during the summer of 2016 I spent 4 weeks volunteering in Borneo. However, this brilliant experience incurred an overall cost of £3980 which I only had 8 months to raise. In order to raise these funds, I hosted several pop-up restaurants at my house, a barn house dance at The Cheshire View and a raffle. From these events I raised £3000, then from a sponsored zip wire on Europe’s longest zip wire and donations from my family I managed to raise the remaining £980.

While I was on this trip, I travelled across Borneo to helped 5 villages with various tasks, they ranged from cement work to laying down water pipes. While on this amazing experience I was challenged to trek across the Bornean rainforest in only 5 days, while on this adventure I learned many skills like teamwork and being able to take complex orders and execute them sufficiently. This volunteering experience gave me a different outlook on the world and put everything into perspective.

NATIONAL CITIZEN SERVICE (NCS)

2016

During the October half term of my first year of A levels I underwent the NCS program, which enabled me to give something back to the community. During this program I help to raise £530 for teenage cancer trust. Our team did this in several ways, the first of which was a stall in Chester market where we had a bake sale and a sponsored 10k, where we each rode 1.42Km on an exercise bike. The other way was an event at Chester football club, where we hosted a raffle and a quiz which both had donated prizes from shops around Chester.
